From 2007-2008, Sydney PEN included the Sydney PEN Young Writers sub-committee, chaired by Bonny Cassidy. This group of under-25s were students, writers and readers who volunteered to support PEN’s mission and activities. In particular, the Young Writers attempted to cultivate awareness and membership of PEN in universities and youth centres, including the University of Technology, Sydney, the Pine Street Centre, Chippendale, and the National Young Writers' Festival, Newcastle.
In 2008, the Young Writers were dissolved but Sydney PEN remains keen to get younger members involved in helping out with events, projects and fundraising. Our student membership rate acknowledges younger members, and joining PEN is a great way to meet others in the literary and arts fields in Sydney as well as be a part of one of Australia’s oldest activist organisations.
